Fireboy and Watergirl 3: Ice Temple moves the elemental duo into a frozen building where the floor itself changes how each hero moves. Your job is the familiar one, getting both characters to their own doors, but ice and snow now push them in opposite directions.

The third game appeared in 2012. Its signature idea is that the two heroes react differently to cold surfaces: Fireboy slides quickly across ice and snow but struggles to climb snowy slopes, while Watergirl is slowed on flat snow and ice but climbs snow slopes without trouble. Special beams can freeze a pool into walkable ice or melt ice back into water. A fan wiki lists 37 levels, split into standard rooms, rooms where both heroes move in mirror image, and rooms built around one white diamond, and it calls this entry the hardest of the first three.

How to play Fireboy and Watergirl 3: Ice Temple

Both heroes share the screen and each has a separate key group, so the game works for two people on one keyboard or a single player switching between them.

• Fireboy moves with the arrow keys, Watergirl with W, A and D.
• Walk into freeze or melt beams to turn pools into ice or back into water.
• Use the slope behaviour to your advantage: send Watergirl up snow ramps and let Fireboy slide down them.
• Reach both matching doors to finish the room.

Tips for Fireboy and Watergirl 3: Ice Temple

• Think about stopping distance before stepping onto ice with Fireboy; build in room to slide rather than jumping from the middle of a slick patch.
• Freeze a pool only when the other hero does not need it as water, because the same beam can block the partner's route.
• Send Watergirl first on steep snow slopes, then use her position to trigger whatever Fireboy needs.
• Collect diamonds on routes you must cross anyway; the optional ones raise your rank but are not worth a restart.
• On the single-diamond rooms, plan the whole route to that gem before moving.
